SAFETY TIPS : PRACTICE SAFETY--DO

Do

• Shut off the entrance switch or remove fuses before working on wiring or any electrical equipment.

• Call a competent electrician when in doubt about installation or repair.

• Learn the cause before you restore current if a breaker trips or a fuse blows. Look for damaged or bare wires and defective outlets or appliances.

• Disconnect your water and water pump immediately if you get so much as a tiny tingle from any part of your water system. Then look for the trouble.

• Use proper insulators for any wires attached to outer buildings.

• Use only three wire extension cords.

• Always place extension cords in a safe place so they will not be damaged by sharp objects.

• Grab the plug and not the wire when unplugging a cord from an outlet.

• Replace fuses with fuses of the same type and rating.

• Call VEC immediately if you see a broken overhead wire. Do not touch it and stay near it to be sure no one else touches it.

• Make sure your wiring meets the National Electric Safety Code standards. Use only first class materials. Look for the Underwriters Laboratories label (UL) and be sure this rating applies to the appliance as well as the cord. Remember that Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI's ) are mandatory for any
outlet with potential exposure to water.

• Put safety plugs in your outlets to prevent a child from sticking objects into the connection.

• Respect electrical current. A 120-volt electric current can kill you. Remember, the current needed to operate a 15-watt sewing machine bulb is enough to kill you!
