SAFETY TIPS : PRACTICE SAFETY--DON'T

Don't

• If you have a three-prong cord to plug into a two-hole outlet, never cut off the third prong. You may put your life on the line.

• Never make electrical connections or changes before disconnecting the breaker or fuse.

• Never work on wiring or appliances if you are not sure of yourself.

• Never place electrical items, such as a blow dryer or curling iron, near a sink or bathtub with water. A death can result if the appliance accidentally falls into the water.

• Never use your fingers as a voltmeter. In other words, don't touch wires to wires or wire to ground to determine if there is electrical current. Doing so can result in burns or even
death.

• Don't use a penny in back of a fuse to bypass the fuse or upsize a fuse. It doesn't fix the problem that caused the fuse to blow. Bypassing the fuse can cause a fire.

• If you see a loose or broken wire, don't touch it! Call VEC or an electrician immediately.

• Never fly kites near power lines.

• When using a ladder, never place it near power lines such as those going into yourhouse.
